Dr Pedro da Mata | Clinical Institute of Allergology, Lisbon
Founded in 1994 by Dr Pedro da Mata and Professor Nuno Neuparth, the Clinical Institute of Allergology, was founded at the British Hospital and was established in 2006 on Avenida de Berna in Lisbon, where it continues to to establish itself as a benchmark in the field of allergology and immunology clinic.
Dr Pedro da Mata’s background helps to explain the strength of this project. Trained in Lisbon, he went through Sports Medicine, a field that led him to Sarajevo and to the Winter World Championships in 1986, before to go on to Lausanne, to the CHUV, where he worked at a time when the HIV infection was mobilising the medical and scientific community. That was when deepened his interest in immunology, the subject of his doctoral thesis, before dedicating himself to the study and treatment of allergies, with a stint for a reference centre in Marseille.
In Portugal, he worked at Dona Estefânia Hospital, in the Department of Immunoallergology, and he was a visiting professor of Paediatrics and Pathophysiology. Today, the ICA brings together a multidisciplinary team and supports patients in areas such as Immunoallergology, Pulmonology, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Nutrition and Sports Medicine, with an approach a clinic based on rigour, attentive listening and continuity of care.
