Wellness has finally learned how to have fun
After years of counting steps, calories and hours of sleep, wellness is starting to free itself from the obsession with performance. The new trend brings back pleasure, socialising and a healthy allowance for imperfection. Paris has already embraced it.

Wellness has spent the last few years watching over us. It has counted steps, hours of sleep, glucose spikes, minutes of cold exposure, and almost every slip-up committed between one meal and the next. In 2026, the industry is beginning to realise that a long life spent filling in dashboards may not be the reward it promised.
The Global Wellness Summit identifies a backlash against over-optimisation among the year’s defining trends. The shift replaces constant measurement with sensory, emotional and social experiences, reclaiming two words that the language of performance had almost driven out: pleasure and joy. Self-care no longer demands military discipline and a collection of devices attached to the body. It wants to be integrated into real life, with music, socialising, food and some room for imperfection.
Paris offers the most evocative setting for this shift. The French capital, long suspicious of wellness imported from California, has embraced cold plunges, Pilates, lymphatic massages and running clubs, but has adapted them to its own code. The result prioritises atmosphere, aesthetics and pleasure, without forcing anyone to give up dinner after their workout.
